Crossing the Rhine River, 24 March 1945, on the double-tow, as it looked fro the left seat of The Argonia.

Crossing the Rhine River, 24 March 1945, from the left seat of The Argonia. Note the smoky conditions. This was caused mostly by Field Marshal Montgomery's smoke pots, as he tried to provide cover for his amphibious crossing of the Rhine and by the smoke drifting north from the medieval German city of Wesel, off our right wing, which had taken a tremendous artillery pounding prior to the invasion. German gunfire and flak was very heavy also, as the Germans were now fighting an invasion of their homeland. Photo taken by author, using a pistol-grip camera provided by Group Intelligence.
